Open Hole Piezometer Standard Operating Procedure

Prior to using an Open Hole Piezometer, the boring is first cored using a Macro Core Sampler. A PVC point is placed on the end of a five-foot slotted section of Schedule 40 PVC and then is placed into the open hole. Additional five-foot sections of PVC are added to advance the slotted section to the desired depth. The groundwater is extracted using tubing which is inserted down the center of the PVC into the slotted section. The most common methods of extracting the groundwater are a bailer, a check valve, or a peristaltic pump, depending upon the contaminant, the volume desired, and the local protocols.
